Mike decided to enter the Real Estate industry after having a few issues with confusing contract clauses during his own home search. He wanted to help first time buyers navigate the home buying process and know they were being dealt with in a fair and transparent manner. Mike earned his REALTOR© designation and joined the Smallwood team in 2019. He chose the Smallwood Team due to the incredible level of industry experience the team possesses, such as two former Presidents of the Howard County Association of REALTORS©. Mike attended the University of Maryland-College Park for undergraduate studies and earned his MBA from University of Maryland-University College in 2017. He previously worked in the transportation field as a freight broker. In this role he oversaw complicated projects to ship oversized freight on flatbed trailers all over the country. Mike had to use organizational, negotiation, and communication skills to ensure all parties involved were on the same page. It was required that the freight was delivered on time, on budget, and exceeding client’s expectations. The attention to detail required to manage these projects and associated contracts, permits, and paperwork translates well to the homebuying process. Mike also spent a great deal of time in the hospitality industry where he relied on his natural ability to listen and relate to guests to allow him to anticipate guests’ needs before they even realize what they need. This experience has allowed him to be able to expertly manage multiple tasks while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.

Mike grew up in southern Prince George’s County and has lived in Maryland his entire life. He currently lives in Arnold, MD with his wife, Tiffani, and their dog Wyatt. He is a fan of all University of Maryland teams, the Caps, Orioles, and regrettably the Redskins. Mike enjoys cooking, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family.
